Bookkeeping FAQ
How often should I do my bookkeeping

For most small businesses, weekly or fortnightly is ideal. It keeps reconciliations current, makes BAS time calmer, and helps you spot cash flow issues early. If your transaction volume is low, monthly can work.

Do you offer one off tidy ups or clean ups

Yes. If things have drifted or you have a backlog, Deb can do catch up and clean up work to bring your file up to date, then help you set a simple process so it stays tidy.

How long does a catch up usually take

It depends on how many months are behind, how clean the bank data is, and whether documents are available. After a quick look at your file and the transaction volume, Deb can give you a realistic plan and order of priorities.

What do you need from me to get started
  • Your bookkeeping software access (invite Deb as a user where possible)
  • Bank accounts connected to bank feeds where possible
  • Your ABN and entity details
  • BAS frequency and whether anything is overdue
  • Where you keep documents (email, Drive, Dropbox, Dext, etc)
Can you set up a new bookkeeping file from scratch

Yes. Deb can help you choose the right platform, set up GST settings, bank feeds, invoice templates, and a simple workflow for bills and receipts.

Can you work with my accountant

Yes. Deb can keep reconciliations and reports tidy so your accountant can move faster at BAS and year end with fewer questions and less rework.

What is included in ongoing monthly bookkeeping support

Typically this includes reconciliations, coding and review, keeping records organised, preparing reports, and getting BAS figures ready with supporting documents. Payroll support can be included if needed.

Do you handle payroll, STP, and super

Yes, where it is in scope. This can include pay runs, payslips, leave tracking, and keeping payroll reporting current. Super processes can be supported based on how your business runs payroll.

What if I am not sure I am doing GST correctly

This is common. Deb can review the day to day coding so GST treatment is consistent. For anything that needs tax advice, Deb can work with your accountant to confirm the right approach.

Do you help with management reports and cash flow

Yes. Once the file is clean and reconciled, Deb can provide management reporting and simple cash flow reporting so you can make decisions with confidence.

How do you keep my information secure

Deb uses secure access and agreed sharing methods. If you use the Client Portal, uploads go directly to secure storage rather than the WordPress media library.

What if I have multiple bank accounts or payment providers

No problem. Deb can reconcile multiple accounts and common payment platforms. Your quote will reflect the number of accounts, transaction volume, and complexity.

Can you help if I have mixed personal and business transactions

Yes. This is very common in small business. Deb can help set a clean process going forward and tidy historical records where possible.

What if I am behind on BAS

Deb can help bring the file up to date and prepare the figures so you can get back on track. If there are deadlines, it is best to talk early so you have options.

Still unsure what you need

If your bookkeeping feels messy or overwhelming, you are not alone. A quick summary is enough for Deb to point you in the right direction.

Include this in your message

  • Which software you use (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online, Reckon Online)
  • Your BAS frequency (monthly or quarterly) and whether anything is overdue
  • Rough transaction volume (low, medium, high)
  • Staff count and whether payroll is needed
  • When the file was last reconciled (or if you are not sure)
  • Your main pain point (GST, catch up, reporting, systems)
